Keep reading to learn how you can maintain your push mower, and call Flieg’s Equipment in Ste. Genevieve, or Leadington, Missouri if you want to buy a new machine. General Tips

There are a few general tips you can follow to successfully maintain your push mower. After all, good maintenance will keep your machine running smoothly and extend its lifespan. Keep in mind that maintenance will slightly differ depending on your model, so always make sure to consult your owner’s manual before performing any maintenance tasks.

A few steps you can take to keep your push mower in good condition include:

  • Using manufacturer-approved parts when you need a replacement
  • Performing maintenance in a well-ventilated area
  • Ensuring your equipment is turned off and all moving parts are stopped before you start
  • When tilting your gas-powered machine, prevent fuel spills

Every Time You Mow

There are also a few maintenance tasks you should perform each time you use your push mower. Start by checking the equipment’s condition. Are there any loose fasteners? Are the wheels turning freely?

Next, make sure the grass catcher is empty. If it isn’t, simply discard the clippings before you start using your push mower. You should then check the oil using the dipstick. Top it off if necessary.

After you finish cutting the grass, you should brush off the deck and engine and clean the grass catcher to prevent rust. Pull the spark plug wire aside and turn the push mower with the air filter facing up. Next, scrape grass and debris from the underside.

What to do at the End of Mowing Season

Although mowing season is upon us, it’s important to know what maintenance to do when it’s time to store your push mower in the shed.

A few maintenance tips you can follow include:

  • Inspecting the blade, sharpening it, and reinstalling it
  • Replacing the blade completely
  • Draining the oil and adding fresh oil instead
  • Checking and cleaning the air filter using a soft bristle brush or replacing the filter completely
